In honor of one of my favourite shows, here is the stunning Christina Hendricks on the cover of the May issue of Canada’s Flare Magazine making this her second cover for the publication. Dressed in a vibrant canary yellow dress from Stella McCartney, Christina gives her best come hither gaze that she has become known for on HBO’s Mad Men.
For the accompanying editorial shoot Christina dons garments from the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney and more including one of her favourites, L’Wren Scott. Overall the looks had a very 50s, 60s italian seaside vibe that fit very well with Christina’s playful, retro sex appeal and the Beverly Hills home that surrounded her.
Inside the issue Christina talks rejection, paparazzi and starring in Ryan Goslings new film:
On being rejected in the industry:
“I’ve been to a million auditions and have been rejected a million times, so it’s something that I’m used to. You’re either right for it or you’re not right for it. You could leave thinking you had the best audition in the world and they say you don’t look like the person I imagined.”
On Paparazzi:
“I’m not out doing crazy things! I’m just not that famous, to be honest. I get to live a very normal life. I don’t have a situation like Jennifer Aniston, where I have people camped outside my house. I can take the garbage out and walk down the street and have ramen and it’s fine.”
On starring in Ryan Goslings new film ‘How To Catch A Monster’:
“Talk about feeling intimidated. Ryan called me and asked me if I was interested in doing this film and I said: ‘One, of course, yes, and two, why me? And three, I don’t want to disappoint you.’ He’s been fantastic, involving me artistically and letting me be along the road of casting and costume design. I’ve seen story boards and imagery and I’ve heard music. It’s the largest role I’ve ever had, so this is one I’m definitely aware of my anxiety about.”

Actress and style icon Diane Kruger graces the very unapologetically girlie cover of the latest issue of Canadian fashion magazine Flare (on newstands now!). On the cover the blonde haired beauty is styled in a red Bottega Veneta Spring 2013 dress (which was also worn by Rachel Weisz and Kerry Washington) with tri-colour Christian Louboutin pumps. I am excited to hear that the premiere of her latest flick ‘The Host’ is coming up on March 29th - not necessarily because I am gunning to see the film but rather because we will be treated to more of Diane’s signature red carpet style.
Oozing of retro charm, Diane gets in touch with her playful side in the studio images accompanying the editoral while donning looks from Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Rochas and of course, Chanel.
In the article Diane discusses her buddy Karl, her beau Joshua, her past and current roles and her love of Twilight.
On her friendship with designer Karl Lagerfeld:
“I’ve known him since I move to Pars when I was 16. He’s very kind and can be very funny and ironic and silly. In difficult moments in my life when I don’t really know who to talk to, I sort of drop by his studio and he knows me well enough to pick up on weird things. He really is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met.”
On Joshua Jackson’s career input:
“Nobody knows me better than he does. He knows exactly when I’m faking it and when I’m being sincere.”
On fighting for her role in Inglourious Basterds:
“Every once in a while there comes a part where you feel like it was written for you. And it wasn’t. But I felt like I really cold bring something to it.”
On her character in The Host:
“She’s so complex. She has that Stepford Wife-y kind of niceness yet there is so much more underlying there: rage and anger.”
On being a fan of Twilight:
“I actually happen to be a big Twilight fan, which I’m not embarrassed to say. It sort of appeals to my inner teenage girl.”

Prada, Altuzarra, Donna Karan - oh my!
26 year old Lea Michele has had an amazing year staring on Glee, recording her new upcoming album, becoming the face of Candies and dating her adorable twice her size boyfriend, Canadian Cory Monteith. What a better way to start off another stellar year then as a Flare cover girl?
She never fails to impress me with how far she has come from when she would hit the red carpet during her first season on Glee. She has become one of my favourite young starlets to watch for at every award show and gala red carpet, always showing up in an eye catching look, sultry makeup and striking that signature over the shoulder pose.
For her upcoming spread in Flare, Lea was photographed in Tony Duquette’s Dawnridge Residence in Beverly Hills which made for the perfect luxe backdrop to the glamourous designs she wore.
In the accompanying article Lea dishes on her tattoos, personal style, first album and her Canadian beau.
On how many tattoo’s she has:
“I think about 12. But they’re all very very very little. I have a butterfly with my mom that we got together. This heart on my finger that I got with [my] cousins, that I’m actually in the process of removing, ‘cause it didn’t take well to the red.”
On her personal sense of style:
“I’m very simple with clothes and I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup. I really feel like I’m the only girl who will do a photo shoot and want to take all the hair and makeup off. ‘Cause I like to let my skin breathe and you know, I’m pretty minimal in my wardrobe. “
On working on her first album:
“I’m beginning the process of it. I’m working with some really great writers. I definitely think that it’s a long process. You know, I don’t know when exactly that will happen, but it’s a goal of mine for sure. I want to make sure that it gets a lot of attention. But I’m beginning a very slow process.
On her Canadian boyfriend, Cory Monteith:
“Canada makes some great dudes, and he’s definitely one of them—just the nicest, sweetest guy in the world. And it’s really great that I’ve gotten to go to Victoria and Vancouver a lot—it’s so beautiful.”

Is anyone else feeling a bit of a Princess Leia vibe on the December cover of Flare? I mean, I love Flare, Keira and Star Wars but there is something here that just isn’t working for me. I cannot wait to see the accompanying editorial in the hopes that I am more impressed. I would also like to point out, are these images not from the March 2011 issue of Elle UK? I know magazines do tend to recycle images but I always expect my favourite magazines to produce their own images. Plus, I mean, there are way better images of Keira to borrow from.

For the ever important September issue, 18 year old supermodel Lindsey Wixson lends her perfectly puckered pout and signature gaped tooth to Flare magazine. Reminiscent of 70’s glamour Wixson wears a mixture of pieces from Prabal Gurung’s fall 2012 collection for the cover.
Making the cover of Canada’s top fashion magazine is definitely another highlight of the year for the young model who has already starred in several campaigns and walked in all the top designers runway shows including a starring role as the bride at the Chanel show.
In the interview accompanying the Fendi, Balenciaga and Michael Kors clad editorial Lindsey talks backstage, staying grounded and the business of fashion. Check out the highlights below:
On the scene backstage as a model:
“Most of the time I am having fun, but a lot of the times it’s overwhelming. I did the Oscar de la Renta show for resort recently and I didn’t know many of the girls. Everyone has their friends and people who they talk to. I sit back and do my own thing. I mainly talk to girls from my agency because I know them and always see them. It’s kind of hard to get to know the other girls. It’s not like how it used to be where you used to have three days to shoot and editorial. We’re all so crunched for time. I feel like the demand for advertising is so much greater and it’s hard to keep up. It’s great, but it’s nonstop.”
On staying grounded:
“The people around me - especially my parents and my sister, who give me input. I try to visit them every month of every other month, but I’ve been so busy with work. I want to make them proud and I try to keep it pretty modest. The fashion industry always wants something else out of you and you can decide if you want to fall into that or maintain your morals and stay true to yourself. I always think about what the people from my hometown would think of some of my shoots. I care about what my family thinks – they wouldn’t want to see my boobs printed everywhere.”
On the business of fashion:
“The fashion industry always wants something else out of you and you can decide if you want to fall into that or maintain your morals and stay true to yourself. I always think about what the people from my hometown would think of some of my shoots.”

Easy, wearable and styled to perfection and exactly what I have come to expect from Flare editorials. Each studio shot portrays the same young model stepping into the stylist shoes various fashion savvy positions such as a blogger, fashion editor, model scout, and socialite.
Seriously though, this editorial had me at those to-die-for purple paint drip Prabal Gurung trousers that I always gush about.

Thursday night Canada’s own Flare Magazine teamed up with GUESS to throw an exclusive party in celebration of the brands 30th anniversary. The event itself was held at the Queen Street West GUESS store in downtown Toronto where the Lotus Leaf Communications team made sure that everyone was in attendance from bloggers like myself to pro shopaholics and local celebrity faces. My friend Amelia and myself had a great time as the event was fun, lively and had an amazing turnout. Guests sipped on champagne, wine and cocktails that kept flowing as hors d’œuvre’s made their rounds. Music was courtesy of New York based DJ Brendan Fallis and guests were treated to a presentation of the clothes on adorable dolled up models oozing retro charm. Makeup, accessories, earphones and gift cards were given away while purchases were accompanied by gifts including OPI, Smashbox and GUESS products. In addition, 10% of proceeds went towards Canada’s Save the Children foundation. When the evening came to a close the party did not stop there but rather move a few doors down to Cube nightclub for the after party.
As previously mention this year marks the 30th anniversary for GUESS and they have in turn released the limited edition capsule collection featuring their most iconic and memorable looks from the past 30 years. The campaign for the collection features the legendary Claudia Schiffer who originally modelled for the brand back in 1989 (the year I was BORN) at 19 years old and now in the same iconic poses 23 years later at 41 and is seemingly ageless. The images were photographed by Ellen Von Unwerth who has also been the photographer on all six campaigns featuring Schiffer. Claudia and Ellen are clearly the perfect choice for this anniversary GUESS campaign in the eyes of GUESS CEO Paul Marciano as he previously stated to WWD, “[Schiffer] was a turning point of GUESS, she was a turning point of Ellen’s career, GUESS was a turning point of a life for Claudia.” The 15-piece collection was inspired by Schiffer and the other former GUESS girls which includes the most adorable daisy capri pants as modelled by Schiffer, jeans with a cut off waist band as seen on Adriana Lima and wide-neck T-shirts featuring images of Line Gost and Anna Nicole Smith.
The collection is available at GUESS stores, Macy’s and at guess1981.com

Print, on print on print and on point aesthetically pleasing clashing. I absolutely die every time I see those Oscar de la Renta and Alexander Wang pumps and they were beautifully paired with architectural designs from the likes of Jil Sander, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. Overall extremely striking and everything we have come to expect from an editorial produced by Flare.

Nothing screams spring is in bloom much like beautiful florals. Fashion editor Liz Cabral picks out some stellar eye popping statement jewellery and various garments that feature high low hemlines, sheer fabric, crochet flowers and delicate lace. Home grown Canadian actress Sarah Gadon dons a wardrobe full of Topshop, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana.
Side note: I am definitely taking a cue from her messy tresses and going a much paler blonde for the summer.

I love the mint and white background, such a sweet setting for such dramatic styling. Photographed in Milk Studios in LA, Richie donned an on trend glittery metallic ensemble by Roberto Cavalli.
I cannot wait to nab this issue.
On trend sultry Mediterranean inspired colorful pieces set against earthy rocks and empty streets boasting a stunning array of flowers. I love that this feels very Isabeli inspired. Flare has really been hitting it out of the park lately in the editorial department. Bravo and keep em’ coming.
