Red Carpet Fashion: every year the red carpet I look forward to the most is for the annual Costume Institute Gala at the MET, which this year honours Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada and the parallels between them and a hypothetical conversation between the two designers. The gala entitled “Impossible Conversations,” attracted designers, musicians, models and actors alike all dressed in the most beautiful designs by the industries best.

Now onto the visual candy - my picks for the best dressed among the ladies. Keep in mind I am fickle and have not seen every look as of yet so I will add to this later tonight. Oddly enough save for a few disasters (Ahem, Mary-Kate Olsen’s hair) I did not notice too many fashion missteps but rather an array of glamorous perfectly put together looks all worthy of the event they graced.

  • Carey Mulligan in custom Prada

  • Lana Del Rey in Altuzarra
  • Karolina Kurkova in custom Rachel Zoe

  • Chanel Iman in Tom Ford fall 2012 with bonus Tom Ford looking dapper. I think I only included her because of him…

By the way, is anyone else loving the dramatic dark berry and chocolate lips that many attendees were donning?

  • Mulberry
  • London Fashion Week Fall 2012

Every season Mulberry tells us a story and if the extravagant fur coat in the first image was any clue, this year creative director Emma Hill was inspired by Where The Wild Things Are and Tim Walker. In regards to the collections inspiration Emma had this to say:

“I’m always obsessed by movies and so we took some of Tim Walker’s The Lost Explorer as well as I wanted it to be really textural with hand knits and different types of fur. We’re a British company so I wanted to make the outerwear really strong. I always think a winter show should actually be for winter”

All of the typical warm fall colours could be found throughout the collection including black, cream, brown and the oh so on trend orange hues. Voluminous coats made of mongolian fur, sheepskin, and rabbit fur were layered over silk dresses with vibrant, kaleidoscopic patterns. Of course that stand out piece among the collection had to be the covetable Del Rey bag named after American songstress Lana Del Rey. When asked about the inspiration behind the bag Mulberry explained:

“Lana has mastered the style of Old Hollywood, mixing it with an edgy sense of fun. This contrast appeals to us: we love mixing eclectic references with classic details in the way that Lana does (alright guys get a room!). The Del Rey bag is infused with this idea, combined with the easy sensibility and English common-sense practicality of our heritage icons.”

Lana Del Rey is taking over newsstands.
