  • New York Fashion Week // Fall 2013

Every season I have come to look forward to BCBG and the long loose, heavily layered looks offered specifically for Fall. This newest collection in particular did not disappoint. Models strutted down the runway with long wispy locks tucked under a cashmere beanie and natural minimal makeup offsetting the plentiful layered looks.

Taking a queue from intricate Turkish title patterns, the artwork of street artist Phil Frost and southern european gypsies Max and Lublov Azria offer up luxe grudge wear for the stylish masses. Keeping to a palette consisting of winter white, black, navy, grey and burgundy textures could be found in the soft cashmere sweaters, crepe skirts, quilted parkas, long silk tunics and luxurious knee length fur coats and vests. Sheer panels added detail to the embroidered silk shift dresses that were layered over laser cut mosaic like patterned tunics and leather pants. Each of the looks were finished off with leather thigh high leg warmers and black or burgundy pumps.

This collection full of separates may just be one of my favourite collections shown thus far at New York Fashion Week and I hope you all have taken some mental notes on layering.

  • Zac Posen
  • New York Fashion Week // Fall 2013

I always prefer Fall fashion over Spring because there are so many heavy, cozy materials, tons of layers and luxe, rich colours. If any one designer has embodied this so far during New York Fashion Week it would be a mister Zac Posen who summarized his collection as, “Maria Callas going to Argentina” and described it as anatomical and architectural.Of how New York has inspired him growing up Posen stated:

“My fantasies about glamour or about society, about travel, all took place here growing up in New York. When you drive by great historical backgrounds, this is where Halston did his first shows, where Oscar de la Renta used to show.”

After a busy few months taking on the role as a judge on Project Runway, Posen presented his smallest runway show in years and did not disappoint delivering the dramatic, beautiful gowns, and perfectly pretty cocktail dress that he has become widely known for.

Intricately crafted garments made of duchesse satin, silk faille ottoman jacquard, luxurious velvet, organza and tulle came in a palette of various jewel tones. As it always the focus was put on the silhouettes as well as draping, sharp cuts and creating that signature hour glass shape.

By presenting us with an exquisitely constructed collection wit a lack of ornate details he was able to prove that indeed sometimes less is more.

  • New York Fashion Week // Spring 2013

Following the flowing airy fabrics and loose relaxed midi lengths of last season, designer’s Max and Lubov Azria once again delighted and brought forth the same looks for the spring collection. This time however the fluid silhouettes were more streamlined and slim while still maintaing the style previously established. The collection itself was inspired by Helmut Newton who is well known for his iconic black-and-white photography featuring erotica and sadomasochism.
One of the stand out details that was featured throughout the collection were the leather harnesses that were layered over many of the dresses and gave a rougher edge to typically feminine designs. I have always been a fan of contrasting edgy items with delicate pieces and creating a very untypical look so I for one cannot wait to get my hands on a leather harness which have already been established as a trend for this season. The mostly neutral hued, monochromatic designs were not lacking in their intricate detailing with many of the lace, silk and sheer garments featuring leather straps while still maintaining a soft appearance. Overall the collection proved to be a perfect juxtaposition of hard and soft elements for spring.

I usually stick to using my Macbook Pro for pretty much everything but I do have a desktop that I used to use all the time. Today I found myself on it trying to find something and came across a ton of old photos that never saw the light of day from events, runway shows, vacations and parties that I have attended over the past two years.
The photo above I snapped at Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2011 runway show during New York Fashion Week. Daphne Groeneveld just looked so adorable and fresh on the runway that I couldn’t resist. I am so glad that her career has gone in the direction it has and I cannot wait to see her success continue into 2013.

  • Oscar de la Renta
  • New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

Oscar de la Renta is the king of femininity. Everything he does is for a woman, he makes her feel beautiful and strong. He has dedicated his life to this and has remained timeless in the process. The way he has managed to stay on top and relevant for all of these years is completely inspiring. He consistently creates garments that are not only classic and ladylike but fresh and new. His campaigns always feature the best of the up and coming models and has embraced the online world like no other designer of his stature. With the efforts of the OscarPRGirl “brand” he has emerged on all major social networking and media websites and gained an unprecedented following. By streaming his runway shows each season live via the internet he has managed to draw in an entirely new audience and made fashion something that anyone can access and appreciate.  A man for all seasons, ages and times - Oscar de la Renta is at the top of his gain and is showing no sign of slowing down.

Now that I have completely gushed about the designer lets have a look at this seasons collection. Setting the base for the runway show the models had their hair swept up and combed back into faux bobs and kept neat with jewel encrusted ribbons. Dewey fresh skin and youthful pink cheeks offset the white and black fishnets that each and every model wore. The most adorably girlie shades of bubble gum pink, cotton candy blue and the best greens (because Oscar really does the best greens as noted time and time again) were featured on most garments while black pieces featured luxurious jewel toned printed on gems. Each piece felt distinctly fairytale like and was accessorized by either an exquisite cocktail ring, delicate yet bold necklace or statement earrings. Chunky beading featuring bits of lace and pearls were clustered on jackets and 60s inspired sophisticated dresses. One thing that should definitely be noted is that the smiles on most of the models faces showed just how much they were enjoying themselves, evidently another effect of working with Oscar.
